How does it work?

Vimba works in two ways:

1. You book a weekly lesson slot with a tutor in a particular subject. The "virtual classroom" opens ten minutes before the lesson begins. You and any other participants in the lesson talk using the video camera and microphone on most computers today, and can use the "virtual whiteboard" to write questions and answers and post files and images there.

Vimba helps you learn by using Moodle, a virtual learning environment. Between lessons, your tutor can set you tests, publish key revision material, extra work and help, plus the ability to upload essays, voice recordings and videos if they want.

2. You enter the Quick Help section, where you can begin an instant conversation with an available tutor to help you then and there. This is ideal if you need one-off help in a subject you are otherwise proficient in. You can seek help from any available tutor.

What can I use Vimba for?

If you're stuck on that impossible French question, or can't see how to do that maths equation your teacher went over in the lesson but you didn't understand, Vimba's Quick Help tutors can help you out. Just go to the Quick Help section and find a tutor who can help you out in minutes.

If, on the other hand, you need more long-term tutoring - you want to take up Spanish, say, or you'd like regular help with Physics to get that A in your end-of-year exams - then you can book a regular lesson slot with a tutor and improve your skills through your weekly lessons and any supplementary content they place on your virtual learning page.

How much does Vimba cost?

It costs nothing to register for Vimba. When it comes to tutoring, each individual tutor sets their own rates.

Quick Help costs whatever the tutor charges, and one payment will allow you to contact the tutor for up to 24 hours after you make this payment.

Regular lessons cost whatever the tutor charges. You can book lesson by lesson or save by purchasing multiple lessons simultaneously.

Payment simply requires a PayPal account or a credit or debit card.
